Welcome to the latest issue of the VAULT magazine: The BIOMETRICS Issue.

Pardon the pun, but in this issue, we put our finger on biometrics and its real-world applications in payment, ticketing, authentication and software protection. With inputs from Mühlbauer, TrustSec, Infineon, IDEX and CardLab we feel that we are able to give the reader a keen insight into the world where biometrics meet smartcards.

As CardLab’s Frank Sandeløv,reminds us, “Value today lies in owning data and the latest statistics shows that in the year 2020, the cost of identity theft in the US alone totaled USD 56 billion.“

Expect to start seeing smartcards with onboard biometrics in your wallet a lot sooner than expected.

Not to be completely overwhelmed by the issue of biometrics, we also have articles from cryptovision and the Silicon Trust. Cryptovision gives us a look at ‘Crypto agility for eID Cards: Why the migration to post-quantum algorithms is challenging and the Silicon Trust investigates the European Commission’s plans for a European Digital Identity in its article; ‘A trusted and secure identity for all Europeans?’
