Gemalto was selected by the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs to supply its Sealys secure multi-service electronic ID cards for their national identity program. This new eID program will secure Mongolian citizens’ identities as well as pave the way for new eGovernment services.
Mongolia has approximately 3 million inhabitants and all citizens above 18 years of age are to carry these advanced smart cards as their national identity document. In addition, the national eID card will allow for more efficient updating of the national registry and to enhance both the process and security level of verifying identities. Gemalto worked with Bodi International, the program prime contractor and a leading IT company in Mongolia on this project.
Gemalto’s Sealys MultiApp ID, the size of a credit card, is fitted with a microprocessor and the Gemalto software that securely manages the citizen’s personal data, including the holder’s digital photograph and fingerprints, while respecting the holder’s privacy. The Mongolia national eID card also features Gemalto’s latest innovation in secure printing: the Sealys Clear Window, a transparent section created in the pure polycarbonate card body structure for enhanced protection against forgery.
“Mongolian citizens have in hand the best of Gemalto’s secure document technology to ensure protection of the eID card and the data it contains,” commented Tommi Nordberg, Senior Vice President at Gemalto. “Our co-operation with Bodi International has been very constructive to develop a secure and high-performance eID solution for the benefit of the country’s citizens.”
This new reference strengthens Gemalto’s position in the national eID card market, following previous achievements in Bahrain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Lithuania, Oman, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
