During Trustech 2023 Silicon Trust caught up with Robert Bach from Infineon to let him explain Infineon’s newest product offering – the TEGRION™ Security Controller. Here’s what he had to say on the subject.

TEGRION™ security controllers are Infineon’s new security controller family; produced in 28 nanometer technology with a groundbreaking security architecture – Integrity Guard 32. TEGRION™ security controllers are dedicated for a whole set of applications. TEGRION™ security controllers are for payment, are for transport, are for ID, and all kinds of embedded applications.

During this year’s TRUSTECH 2023, we have been launching the SLC26G, which is the first TEGRION™ security controller dedicated for governmental and identity solutions. We have launched the SLC26T, dedicated for transport applications and already a couple of months ago and actually last year we already relaunched the first family member, the SLC26P TEGRION™ security controller dedicated for payment. What does TEGRION™ stand for? Actually, it’s standing for three topics.

Mainly it’s about performance. So it combines an ultra performing core with the ARM V8M extreme performant security architecture and all performance peripherals to an overall performing controller with very reduced transaction times in all kind of applications like payment, transport and ID. TEGRION™ security controllers stand as well for achieving high security levels with the Integrity Guard 32 architecture. With the Integrity Guard 32 architecture, once you implement an operating system, you easily and effortlessly can implement your operating system and your software without taking care too much about secure coding. So basically it’s really an effortless, lasting security.

Robert Bach, Infineon Technologies

This Integrity Guard 32 is especially dedicated for long term applications such as ID, where you have documents which are staying in the field for ten years or sometimes even longer. The TEGRION™ security controllers are not just about performance and security, it’s about efficiency as well. So basically using the 28 nanometer technology, they’re extremely power efficient, which is extremely helpful for any kind of transactions where you don’t have much power like contactless transactions. But equally it’s efficient in terms of implementing and time to market. So using the integrity guard architecture, customers who are implementing operating system can cut their time to market to a very small amount. At least cutting by half because certification will be much easier and a long-lasting certification, even reassessments, will be easier.
