This year’s annual Silicon Trust Marketing Day was a huge success, attended by over thirty participants, representing twenty companies along the secure ID value chain. With its focus topic ‘ID document lifetime’, the 2012 meeting, which took place on September 12th, attracted important players, such as Giesecke & Devrient, Gemalto, Bundesdruckerei, HID Global, T-Systems, Agfa and the Federal Agency for Information Security (BSI) to present and discuss.

The day kicked-off with a a presentation on “Practical experience in dealing with governmental eID documents” by Olaf Bausinger of the BSI, giving much desired insights and statistics on the results of various pilots in Germany in the last years. Ingo Liersch (Giesecke & Devrient) and Stefane Mouille (Gemalto) shared their companies’ experience with both the mechanical and electronic challenges of  ID documents. The animated discussions among participants continued over lunch at a nearby Chinese restaurant.
In the afternoon, Infineon’s strategy experts presented the much sought after market updates – based on the findings of several research institutions. The market figures were presented in terms of smart card applications, regions and technologies. Trends and new requirements in governmental applications were another topic presented, followed by a technical session on packaging technologies. The final topic of the day – requirements for ID controllers – had it easy: That same day, the Infineon security technology ‘Integrity Guard’ was nominated for the prestigious German Federal President’s Award for Innovation and Technology, proving that the requirement of more security is being handled quite well by the meeting’s host.
