The management of an ID card lifecycle is a highly relevant topic for our  industry. Many government-issued travel and ID documents have lifetime guarantees of up to 10 years. A decade in electronics is a totally different thing than in security printing – advancements are much faster, as are the skills of hackers and counterfeiters. Another challenge is post issuance. Most ID cards’ success depends on the roll-out of convenient and secure applications. The development of these apps changes continuously and both the document and the chip have to be able to accommodate these developments.
