ID4Africa has selected Morocco as the host country for its 6th Annual Meeting of the ID4Africa Movement, also known as ID4Africa 2020. ID4Africa 2020 will be held on June 2-4 at the Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi & Palais des Congrès, Marrakesh, and will be hosted by the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The announcement was made by the ID4Africa Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph J. Atick, at a ceremonial session which has become a highly anticipated annual tradition, where the Movement announces the host country for the coming year, on the final day of its current annual meeting.
Dr. Atick shared “we are very excited to be in Morocco for our 6th year, a country where identity development is at a high pace and exemplifies our 2020 theme – Identity 360. ID4Africa 2020 will engage a multi-view perspective on identity that will bring into focus the various stakeholders involved in the identity ecosystem, and their complementary perspectives”.
The selection of the host country goes through a competitive process that takes into consideration many factors including the country’s infrastructure, as well as its political will and overall engagement in reforming its identification practices to provide identity-for-all.
The acceptance speech on behalf of the government of Morocco was made by Mr. Omar El Alami, Head of Information Systems, Strategy Division at the Ministry of Interior, Morocco, who is also the ID4Africa Ambassador for Morocco.
In a statement, Mr. Alami shared “The Kingdom of Morocco is truly honored to host the 6th Annual Meeting of the ID4Africa Movement in 2020. We are delighted to be part of the ID4Africa Movement which contributes tremendously to the development of digital identity ecosystems in the service of economic development and social inclusion.” He added “On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, we would like to extend warm hospitalities to all of you to take part in ID4Africa 2020. We are humbled by the gesture and to be receiving you in our beloved country.”
