Indian Driver's Licence

The Indian subsidiary of Morpho (Safran Group), Smart Chip Limited, is the first company to have issued more than 20 million smart card-based electronic driver’s licenses and electronic registration certificates in India.

In India, Morpho is the leading supplier of comprehensive end-to-end solutions in the transport segment and has successfully implemented and executed driver’s license and vehicle registration card projects in various Indian states. This constitutes one of the most successful implementations of smart card technology in the e-Governance space.

Innovative and citizen-centric services such as online fee/tax payment systems, smart card-based registration certificates and driver’s licenses, web-based information systems, real-time reports, tax intelligence systems and check post management systems are the smart dimensions offered in such projects. These projects have empowered state transport departments and provided them with unique benefits of smart governance by delivering transparency, effectiveness and efficiency.

It gives me immense pleasure and a great sense of pride to have reached the milestone of issuing 20 million smart cards in the transport segment in India. From our very first implementation of this technology in Gujarat State, we have continued to invest in this sector and work together continuously with the state transport authorities to enhance the success of this e-governance initiative, which is already one of the most successful implementations of smart card technology in India,” commented Mr. Sanjeev Shriya, Vice President Asia Pacific at Morpho, and Managing Director of Smart Chip. “It is clear that beyond a strong product offering, our historical presence in this domain and a state-of-the-art service delivery framework are key competitive advantages and contributors to achieving this landmark.
